Research around a question that matters to development.
KyperX welcomes research collaborations that address a defined technical uncertainty. The aim is to connect methods, expertise and facilities with outputs that can inform an industrial decision.
Research questions
Questions worth investigating.
Select a question to see the part of the system it concerns and the prompts a proposal should answer.
Time-dependent industrial energy
How could generation, grid supply, storage and demand be reconciled under explicit operating constraints?
- Inputs
- Which generation, grid-supply and demand profiles, and which operating constraints, would the work need?
- Method
- How would the time-dependent model or analysis make its assumptions explicit?
- Intended output
- Which operating relationship or configuration question would the result clarify?
Storage economics
How do duty, efficiency and degradation affect a defined application?
- Inputs
- Which duty, efficiency and degradation data describe the application?
- Method
- How would the analysis connect performance over time with the economics of that duty?
- Intended output
- Which storage decision for the defined application would the result inform?
Hydrogen interfaces
How can production and buffering match a consuming process?
- Inputs
- Which production profile and consuming-process requirements would be assessed?
- Method
- How would production, buffering and delivery conditions be compared over time?
- Intended output
- Which interface requirement or buffering duty would the result define?
Ironmaking integration
What process and feed evidence is required to compare routes?
- Inputs
- Which feed characteristics and process data would be needed?
- Method
- How would the routes be compared on a consistent basis?
- Intended output
- Which evidence gap between routes would the result close or identify?
Battery manufacturing
Which process trials and tests would validate a manufacturing concept?
- Inputs
- Which materials, process conditions and facilities would the trials require?
- Method
- Which trials and cell tests would be run, and how would reproducibility be shown?
- Intended output
- Which process assumption would the results validate or reject?
Work package
Turn a research question into a testable work package.
A proposal should identify the question, method, required inputs, available expertise and facilities, expected output, and how the result would be assessed. An exploratory discussion can help define the work package before a full proposal is prepared.
- 01
Question
The defined technical uncertainty the work addresses.
- 02
Intended method
How the question will be investigated.
- 03
Required inputs
The data, materials or access the method needs.
- 04
Available facilities
The facilities and expertise the collaborator brings.
- 05
Expected output
What the work will produce and how it can be inspected.
Arrangements
Agree the working arrangements.
Scope, roles, supervision, funding responsibilities, confidentiality, intellectual property and publication arrangements need to be agreed for the specific collaboration. The website does not assume access to university facilities or funding.
Decision
Link research to a development decision.
An output could qualify an input, test a process assumption, compare options or identify what needs further study. The contribution should make the next decision clearer, even where the conclusion is that an option should not advance.
